Congratulations to the South Burnaby Giants 11U AA team for a good showing at the 2018 BC Baseball Provincials!

This young team went to Comox having no players with any prior experience in a provincial tournament. Their main goal was to gain some experience while having fun. They were placed in a very difficult pool, facing the #1 team (Newton) from the Lower Mainland East as well as the #1 team (Ladysmith) from the Island. They exceeded all expectations keeping their spirits and sportsmanship up during all games and winning against Penticton.

Thank you to all the families that attended, supported and cheered on the team!

Congratulations to the South Burnaby Giants 15U team on a fantastic performance at the 2018 BC Baseball 15U A Provincials!

The team, led by coaches Peter Lei, Darryl Sherwood, Bill Adams and Robert Cust was 13-3 during summer league play, placing 2nd overall in the standings and led their provincial pool with a 3-1 record in round robin play to make it to the semi-finals.

They lost their first game on Thursday Aug 9th to Coquitlam Moody (9-13) after most of them travelled on the 7:45AM ferry to Nanaimo. They caught their 2nd wind and bounced back later that day, to defeat Powell River 8-7 in a tight match with a touch of controversy to end the game. This would be the beginning of a winning streak as the team won their next two games: a 23-4 win against Stuart Channel and a 14-4 win against host Nanaimo.

Unfortunately, they would lose a very close game to North Shore in the semi-finals by one run to end their road to the championship.

Thank you to all the parents /siblings who helped set up tents, brought refreshments and cheered on the team.

Well done, Giants!

On Wednesday, Aug 8th, SBMC baseball participated in the annual Wesburn Family Picnic.

Wesburn Family Picnic is designed to create a sense of community awareness while neighbors
connect, enjoy the evening together in the park, and discover more about the city and the area
that surrounds them.

The club was well represented by a group of tadpole parents: John Cox, Signy Marcyniuk, Wesley Narciso , Lisa Streit-Upton and SBMC president, Edward Ho. A big thank you to these volunteers who set up and ran activity stations while providing information about our baseball programs to those attending.
